I hate incompetence.
I hate mediocrity.
I hate laziness.
I hate actors who walk around going,
“I want to be a great actor!”
Then when you give them the opportunity
to do great material
with great characters and great language
and a great script, they don’t do it.
I hate whiners.
I hate arrogance.
I hate people who forget what it means to be an artist.
~Bonnie J Monte (in American Theatre, April 2008)~
It’s been a great ride and we have made some amazing friends, but all good things must come to an end; for Theatre Ventoux that time is now.
This decision was reached over the course of several weeks and much discussion. Part of the reason for our decision was the stress stemming from trying to mount a production of “Equus,” which had been a dream of ours since 2007. However, the hurdles we encountered while trying to obtain the rights from the playwright’s agent, as well as performance requirements made the situation difficult. We had put together an amazing cast who unselfishly gave us their time and talent during this uncertain time and who would have put up a show that would have knocked this town on it’s ass. Shawn, Jessica, Hal, Melissa, Eric, Suzanne and Chelsea: thank you.
We are welcoming this time to focus on family and our careers. Also, Greg was recently named Executive Producer of the Woodward Shakepeare Festival, and we will be extensively involved with the 2012 season.
To the local actors who appeared in our productions: we are blessed to have been able to share our vision with you.
To our audiences: we are blessed to have had the opportunity to play for you.
“Solsbury Hill” is playing as I write, and, in our world, that means everything is as it should be.
